THE AMERICAN COLONY
COMMERCIAL CENTER JERUSALEM, (in progress)
The American Colony Commercial Center totals 19,000 M² of retail and office space, and 175 underground parking spaces.
The building's location on the seam between East and West Jerusalem and its proximity to Road No. 1, to the famous American Colony Hotel, to Salah A-Din commercial street and to the Old City,
attributes the site its unique potential.
The design adopts local motifs of courtyards, masonry walls and fenestrations. An exterior courtyard leads to an atrium screened with a Mashrabias (masonry sun screen) allowing light, air and views. Retail and office spaces are arranged around a five story courtyard. Facades, on the other hand are fenestrated in a random manner in contrast yet in respect to the ordered traditional context, contributing to its contemporary identity.
